*Squeek!* Miss Moon Maiden here is one of the semi-finalist! Aaaaand the other semi-finalists are--!: [link] ..... I still think pwning is imminent. LOL! -------------- All rightee. First things first... A link to the contest This is for the Tarot contest: [link] A description of the card you're doing (the traditional meaning) The description as per written by Lindell Barker Revell in her book "The Tarot & You", 1999 "This strange card depicts 2 dogs baying beneath a moon which is both full and crescent. Surreal images of a lobster emerging from the water and forbidding grey towers appear. Something in the card evokes fear, as we have all experienced the 'long dark night of the soul'. At night familiar things can look peculiar and different, even frightening. This card is like a dreamscape with its disturbing images that sometimes haunt our dreams and evoke fearful imaginings. The Moon is connected to the changeable unconscious world which we can only reach in dreams. In ancient times, the moon was seen as a symbol of the Great Mother Goddess. She exists as the triple goddess: the new moon or Maiden; the full moon as Mother; and the waning moon as Hecate, the crone or Wise One." Upright meaning: "You are now in a period of heightened sensitivity and can be more creative and imaginative than usual. Your dreams may be vivid, for the Moon rules that time when we sleep, opening to the unconscious world. New ideas are formulated and explored during sleep. We are actually being remade." A description of your card, the symbolism in it, how you've interpreted the original card, etc. Aiyaya, the tricky part. Well..... The original design of this card is just the 2 dogs, the lobster, the strange moon and the 2 grey towers. I can't remember why I picked this card. But when I read in the description "the new moon or Maiden", I imagined some sort of a Moon Maiden. So I chucked one lady in there. It looks as though ... splinters or pieces are coming from the moon and to the Moon Maiden. Or wait. Is it the splinters coming from the Moon Maiden to the Moon? This is where the upright meaning kicks in, the one about "We are actually being remade". Maybe the moon is remaking the maiden. Or maybe the maiden is remaking herself. Her eyes are closed, most likely asleep, her dreams could actually be remaking her! Or maybe she's concentrating on controlling the moon, especially with the way her hand is reached out towards it. So. Which one is it? That, I leave it to you to decide. I kept the original elements of the card; the dogs, the towers, the lobster... If you notice something, one of the Maiden's front hair seem to be... flowing? Flowing water stream, from where the lobster came out from. This shows that our maiden here is not exactly human, further emphasized with purple skin and such. I randomly chose the colours for the 'splinters' and ' pieces', hoping to create a 'dreamy' effect. After all, the Moon card is related to the dreams, and how they affect us while asleep. The grass horizon and the grey towers are kind of 'arched' towards the moon. Possibly a gravitational pull? Or maybe it's not just the maiden being remade, but also the reality / world here? Most likely, since the black starry sky appears to be pierced by the presence of the moon. I was hoping to strike the 'fear' element here. I mean, what could be freaky than seeing the sky pierced like that, or seeing reality or your world being remade right in front of you? The uncertainty alone would encourage that fear. And uh... I think that's about it. Art-wise speaking, I only have one thing to say; I can't CG to save my asssss!!!! *SOB SOB SOB* Pwning is imminent! |

Snoopy is what most animals should be like! He's cute AND cool! And who wouldn't be like that? ^__^

The moon maiden's suppose to be the main subject, right? If so, the darker tone made her less outstanding compared to the sun/moon, lobster(lol)and the white wolf. And also, the grass further behind shud be smaller and vice versa, it helps enhance the perspective. ;D
Good job. Keep practising. ^^

Purple skin? Err.... because it looked cool? 8DDD
LOL! Maybe it's because the lobster's shading is done better than the moon lady...

And lol for the grass! I tried to use small-to-large brush to create that perspective. But then I fiddled with the 'Warp' option, and ended up like this.
Thanks for the critique, I appreciate it~
